Did I Ever Tell You

The story behind this song was that I when I was in college, I was at a dance that was a few hours away from our home. Although I had told my parents that I would be staying longer, they didn’t realize how long of a drive it was. I got home about 3:00 a.m., and I was surprised that they were worried sick. I had been expecting to wake them up and tell them how much fun I had had, but instead found them contemplating whether or not they should call the cops.

I felt terrible. On first glance, one might look at the piece and think that I wrote it to appease their anger. They were not angry. They love me very much, and were worried about me. This incidence taught me that in a deeper way than I had previously internalized. In my gratitude to them, this song practically wrote itself. My mom came out to my room to wake me up the following morning, and was surprised that I had been up for hours and had this song to present to her. Thank you, Mom and Dad. What great parents you are, I truly will always be grateful for you.
